The pinning ceremony is an age-old tradition in medical programs. Graduates receive a unique pin to demonstrate their achievement and prowess.
The College of the Albemarle is doing something different. Instead of pins, they have their own coining ceremony for graduates of the EMS program. Walter Meads, EMS program Coordinator at the school said, “We celebrate the accomplishments of these paramedics and the dedication they have shown to training and communities. Each of them represents the future of emergency medical care and will play an invaluable role in ensuring the health and safety of our region.”
While each graduate from the EMS program received a coin, the coining ceremony also involved recognizing individual excellence. Certain graduates were distinguished for outstanding academic achievement like highest class average and excellence in clinical and field intubations, and two students were recognized for their service in delivering a baby while on duty!
The school coins were designed with the College of the Albemarle logo on one side, and a traditional EMS logo on the other. The translucent enamel over high polish silver plating gives the school logo a beautiful stained glass effect, and it contrasts nicely with the darker soft enamel colors on the back of the coins.
